Strategic Economic Development in First Nations Communities by Nelson Ugonna Onwuliri

Economic development in 2026 is no longer just about resource extraction; it is about "Sovereignty-Driven Development." This means creating businesses and infrastructure that the community owns, operates, and benefits from directly.

Drawing on my background in global finance and Indigenous governance, I believe that sustainable growth requires "Entrepreneurial Finance" principles. This involves looking at community investments with a long-term lens. For example, by utilizing valuation techniques I refined during my Harvard training, communities can better assess partnership opportunities with external industries. My goal is to support economic models that empower local talent and keep wealth within the community, turning modern economic tools into instruments of self-determination.
